Accepting Recruitment Enquiries | Class of 2028
Hi, I’m Poppy Fleet. I’m a 15 year old rugby player based in Sydney, Australia, originally from New Zealand. I play flanker and back row (6, 7) in women’s 15s and 7s. I love both the physical and team aspect of rugby and I enjoy the parts of the game that reward effort and decision making, especially defence, breakdown work, and support play.
My strengths are ball carrying into contact, strong defence and tackling, breakdown work and turnovers, and support play with try scoring. I bring a high work rate and I like doing the unseen jobs that help the team win momentum. I am also fast for my position and I compete in athletics at state level (13.6 seconds in the 100m), which helps my repeat efforts and ability to get to rucks quickly.
I attend Barker College in Sydney, Australia and play in the College's Firsts Rugby 7s team. I was recently selected for the New South Wales State Sevens wider squad for my age group. I have also travelled to the United States for rugby, including playing at Bloodfest, Austin and attending the Rugby 10s Invitational and training with Rhino Academy in 2024. On the 31st of March 2026 I am off to Tampa, Florida as I have been invited to play for the Tucson Thunderbirds at the Tropical Sevens!
I care about effort, humility, and being coachable. I want to be part of a program where players support each other, standards are clear, and performance is built the right way. I like environments that develop leadership and character, not just results.
I take school seriously and I want a strong academic pathway alongside rugby. I truly love learning and currently hold a 3.4 GPA with a goal to reach 3.5+ by graduation. I’m planning to study Psychology or Criminology. I love the idea of Forensics. I am proactive about NCAA eligibility and am looking for a university that values academic dedication as much as athletic performance.
Off the field, I am deeply committed to community service and supporting those in need through various fundraising and volunteer initiatives. For the past two years, I have participated in charity walks for kids with cancer, raising vital funds for the Sydney Children’s Hospital Cancer Ward. My volunteer experience also extends to large-scale events like the Sydney International Marathon and educational support at Darkinjung Barker, an Indigenous school. Most importantly, I dedicate every Wednesday to playing basketball with children with disabilities through Time Out Basketball, a charity that provides essential respite for parents and carers. These experiences have instilled in me a strong sense of leadership, empathy, and dedication that I carry into every match.
My ideal University or College offers a genuine student athlete experience, strong coaching, a supportive team culture, and clear academic support. I’m open to both 15s and 7s and I want to keep developing in both formats.
